Students of grade three in computer science class.
The name Jeanetta Morris will forever be etched in the history of Mavisville Preparatory School as the conceptualiser of the 50-year-old institution.
Una McKenzie, a friend of Morris, loaned her 30 pounds to get the school started. Mavisville started with five students in 1956. The school was originally sited at Mavis Avenue (from which the school takes its name), then to the Maranatha Church Hall, before going to its present location on Nightingale Avenue in 1960.
The school is built on solid Christian principles, as evidenced in its motto, 'Pray and Work'. The school was closely linked with the Maranatha Assembly.
Mavisville has performed creditably over the years in sports and the various competitions in the Jamaica Cultural Development Commission's Festival of Arts.
On the academic front, students have performed well in the Common Entrance Examinations, and then the Grade Six Achievement Test. Government scholarships are not uncommon for the institution; the latest going to Javier Gordon in 2004.
