CAMPBELL
JAMAICA'S DOUBLE Olympic gold medallist Veronica Campbell may have to find a new coach soon.
On Monday, Lance Brauman, the man who guided the sprinter to her success at the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, was handed a prison sentence.
Brauman was sentenced to six months in prison with the same amount of time under house arrest following a scandal involving academic integrity and fraud at Barton County Community College in the United States between 1995-2003.
Brauman, 36, was convicted on the felony charges in mid-July and resigned from the University of Arkansas shortly after the verdict.
It was reported that the athletic department scandal involved paying athletes through federal and school work programmes.
Prosecutors said Brauman's actions cost the campus programme US$16,809 and the federal programme nearly US$110,000.
Brauman, who is also Tyson Gay and Wallace Spearmans' coach, helped a number of Jamaicans to attend Barton County College over the years.
Efforts to reach Campbell's manager ended unsuccessfully as he did not return several telephone and email messages.
