Second Foska Oats Grand Prix race on Sunday
published: Thursday | October 5, 2006

THE SECOND race in the Foska Oats/Jamdammers Grand Prix Series, the Upliftment Jamaica 5K, is set to run off on Sunday at Goodyear Oval in St. Thomas.

After one of four races in the series, Wainard Talbert leads the male category with 21 points - ahead of Kemoy Campbell of Bellefield High (19 points) and Andre Drummonds of UTech (18).

In the female division, Natoya Goule of Manchester High leads with 21 points ahead of Tanice Barnett of UWI (19) and Areita Martin (18).

In the High School Championship boys' category, Bellefield High lead the pack on 21 points followed by Edwin Allen High (19) and Manchester High (18), while Vere Technical are on top of the girls' section with 21 points over Holmwood Technical (19) and Edwin Allen (18).

Faster course

Race director for the Grand Prix Series, Alfred Francis, says, "This new course, which begins at the Goodyear Oval, is much faster than last year's course that began at White Horses, and I'm sure that the 16 minutes, 14 seconds performed by series' leader Talbert and 19 minutes, 28 seconds by Goule, leader in the female category, will be improved this year."

Francis also noted that, "Upliftment Jamaica is a non-profit organisation working towards the development of a positive lifestyle in the parish of St. Thomas. The 5K run is just one of the many lifestyle enhancement programmes featured on its annual calendar."
