WESTERN BUREAU:
ST. ELIZABETH Technical High School (STETHS) added another impressive chapter to their dominance of Zone E of the ISSA/Pepsi/JN daCosta Cup when they registered the biggest margin of victory in yesterday's round of games - a big 8-0 win over Newell, which lifted them to 20 points and on the verge of an inter-zone place.
In another top game yesterday, runaway Zone B leaders Frome Technical extended their 100 per cent win record to six games when they defeated Cambridge 4-0, which lifted them to 18 points - eight clear of second place Rusea's (10), who lost 1-0 to third-placed Anchovy (seven).
glenmuir in excellent form
Last year's beaten finalists Glenmuir, who have been displaying excellent form in Zone I, widened their lead atop the standings with a 4-0 blanking of Kemps Hill, which gives them the impressive record of six wins from seven starts and 19 points - five clear of second place Garvey Maceo.
In the big Montego Bay derby at Jarrett Park between second-place Herbert Morrison (eight) and fourth-place St. James High (five), fans were treated to an exciting exhibition of open football as the teams battled to an entertaining 1-1 draw.
In the other Zone A game, William Knibb (13) widened their lead, outscoring third-placed Maldon 5-0 to avenge their first-round 1-0 loss. Maldon, who started the season with back-to-back wins against William Knibb and Cornwall College, have now lost their past three games.
In the game at Jarrett Park, Herbert Morrison dominated the early action and, after missing good chances from Nicholas Campbell and Akhail Lee who both had close-range headers saved by goalkeeper Fitzroy McIntosh, took the lead in the 30th minute.
On a dazzling break through the midfield, Lee left a number of defender sprawled on the ground before cracking a shot through the outstretched hands of the goalkeeper, making the score 1-0.
St. James should have drawn level on the stroke of halftime when the overlapping Chevanne Christie got behind the Herbert Morrison defence but had his fierce grounder brilliantly blocked by an alert defender. The half ended with the score unchanged.
In the second half, the tide swung in St. James High's favour as they gradually took control. They should have levelled the score in the 50th minute but, after finding himself with the goalkeeper at his mercy, Andre Bernard fired high and wide.
St. James finally got on the scoresheet in the 63rd minute when substitute Mario Campbell caught the Herbert Morrison defence napping and fired powerfully out of the reach of goalkeeper Tiano Camp-bell, making the final score 1-1.
