David Alleyne, assistant coach for the Barbados body building team and a 25-year veteran in the police force in that country, was on Tuesday freed of charges of possession of 10 pounds of ganja.
Andre Miller, a member of the Barbados junior body building team, pleaded guilty to possession of 20 pounds of ganja and will be sentenced on Friday.
The men were about to leave the island on Monday for Barbados when a sniffer dog alerted the police to ganja in Miller's luggage. The dog next alerted the police to ganja in Alleyne's luggage. The ganja in both luggage weighed 10 pounds each.
The men were arrested and charged.
When they appeared in the Corporate Area Resident Magis-trate's Court yesterday, Miller pleaded guilty to the charges.
Miller told the court that the ganja in his luggage as well as that in the luggage of his coach belonged to him. Miller and his coach had shared the same accommodation.
Attorney-at-law Tom Tavares Finson, who represented Alleyne, then asked for the charges to be withdrawn against Alleyne and they were withdrawn.
Alleyne is Miller's coach. Miller came to Jamaica to participate in the Caribbean Body Building competition over the weekend. He placed third in the competition.
