BRITAIN: IRA campaign of violence is over - Blair

BELFAST (Reuters):

The Irish Republican Army's violent campaign in Northern Ireland is over, British Prime Minister Tony Blair said yesterday, following a report into paramilitary activity that raised hopes of reviving self-rule.

Northern Ireland's ceasefire watchdog, the Independent Monitoring Commission , said in the report it believed the IRA, which pledged last year to end violence for good, was no longer engaged in terrorism.
