Pit bull packs a hearty bark?
published: Thursday | October 5, 2006

New energy drink Pit Bull, the high- energy alternative to Red Bull. Distributed by Anthony Scotman. The beverage was on display at the Jamaican Jerk Festival held in Fort Lauderdale recently, and will be available in Jamaica by year-end. - Barbara Ellington/Lifestyle Editor

Recently, at the annual Jamaican Jerk Festival in South Florida, Lifestyle Editor, Barbara Ellington came face to face with a pitbull - energy drink that is.

The drink is an energy booster and is being touted to rival the popular, Red Bull.

Food brought a few cans back to Jamaica and asked real men of the Editorial Department at The Gleaner Company Limited to sample and offer their comments. Here is what they had to say.

Comments:

Tastes like sparkling water with a little acidic flavour.

Like the dog is a man's best friend this has got to be a man's best drink. It's a powerful wuff!! wuff!!

This bull has no kick ... flat as ginger ale.

Tastes better than Red Bull. Didn't get enough for the energy test - can't compare.

The Pit bull is a bit easier on the tastebuds than Red bull.

I taste a strong pear amd apple flavour. It's like a cross between Apple J, and Red Bull.

It tastes too much like soda. Too sweet. I prefer the taste of Red Bull. I wouldn't switch.

"Grrr!"

Taste like a more acidic Ting or kind of like 7Up. I suppose the real proof of whether it works is a different matter. But taste-wise, it's not bad. Definitely has a citrus taste to it.

If it's as bad as its namesake, then I can't wait to have it here in Jamaica. Pity I did not get more to taste.

Just three months on the American market, the drink has already received the blessings of the of the Bureau of Standards. A shipment has already been sent off to Grenada and other Caribbean locations are being explored.
