FORMER CHAMPIONS Wolmer's continued their unbeaten run in this year's ISSA/Pepsi/JN Manning Cup competition with a 2-0 victory over Kingston College at North Street yesterday.

KC dominated the first half but failed to score due to poor shooting from the likes of Tarik Smith, Oliver Blake and Jermaine Dawkins. Wolmer's' best chance fell to their captain Nicholas Beckett, whose free kick was denied by the crossbar, in the first half.

Playing in front of a capacity crowd in the second half, Wolmer's quickly went on the attack and were rewarded in the 75th minute when Mikhail Hewitt volleyed home a spectacular right-foot cross from substitute Rashidi Rose to give his team the lead. Hewitt was at it again two minutes later, but his close-range attempt was wide of the target.

Shell shocked

KC looked shell shocked after conceding the first goal and, as Wolmer's continued to dominate the game, Andre Sharp doubled the maroon-and-gold's lead in the 82nd minute, when he ran by two KC defenders to fire home a thunderous right-foot, close-range shot past a well-beaten Shane Earlington.

Rose thought he had sent his team further ahead in the dying moments of the game but his effort was well saved by Earlington.

Vassel Reynolds, coach of Wolmer's, was pleased with his team's victory.

"We didn't play particularly well in the first half, but I had a serious talk with my team at the half-time break and they went out in the second half and basically lifted their game, and KC just didn't have the answer," Reynolds said.

KC coach Wayne Fairclough was disappointed after his team's loss.

"I think we squandered many chances in the first half, but complacency got the better of us; Wolmer's played well in the latter part of the game. This is a very tough loss, especially playing at home, but we just have to look over what we did wrong and try to make it for our next game," said Fairclough.
