FOR THE first time in five months world 100-metres record holder Asafa Powell ran the sprint in more than 10 seconds.

Warming up for Sunday's final Golden League meet in Berlin, Powell took his sweet time to win yesterday's men's 100m at a low-key Polish meet in 10.02 seconds.

Powell has already this season run 9.95 (May 6), 9.93 (May 28), 9.96 (June 2 - heat), 9.98 (June 2 - final), 9.77 (June 11), 9.85 (July 8), 9.85 (July 14), 9.86 (July 25), 9.91 (July 28), 9.77 (August 18) and 9.99 (August 28) - a record for the most sub-10 clockings in a single season.

Powell's last 10-plus effort came at the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne in March (10.03).

Another Jamaican, Michael Frater, was second yesterday in 10.25 while American Shawn Shawford was third in 10.50.

In the women's event, Sherone Simpson, the world leader in both sprints, won the women's 100 in 11.25.

Williams takes 400m

Jamaica's Shericka Williams won the women's 400m in 52.00.

The athletes were preparing for Sunday's ISTAF meet in Berlin, in neighbouring Germany.

Powell is among four athletes who remain in contention for a share of a US$1 million bonus. The prize is shared among those who win their event at all six Golden League meets.

Also in contention are Jeremy Wariner (400m), Tirunesh Dibaba (women's 5,000) and Sanya Richards (women's 400).
