Portmore toll protest to intensify
published: Thursday | August 31, 2006

Portmore community leaders will further intensify their protest against the rates to use the Portmore toll road with the staging of the second boycott rally at 7:00 o'clock this evening.

The rally, hosted by the All Hellshire Leadership Council, Greater Portmore Joint Citizens' Association, and the Portmore Joint Citizens' Association, will be held at the Lions Civic Centre in Edgewater, St. Catherine.

Environmentalist Peter Espeut will be among the speakers. Community leaders are expected to announce further protest actions to press for the lowering of the toll rates.

In the meantime, the Portmore Citizens' Advisory Council (PCAC) has asked Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller to use some of the funds recently borrowed from Venezuela to reduce the toll rates on the Portmore causeway.
