CLERGY MOVES - First female Jamaica Baptist Union (JBU) pastor missionary in Panama

Rev. Marvia Lawes

The Rev. Marvia Lawes recently left the island to become the first female pastor of the Jamaica Baptist Union (JBU) to be a missionary. She took up assignment in Panama.

Ms. Lawes previously served in the Stewart Town circuit of Baptist Churches in Trelawny. She graduated from the United Theological College of the West Indies with a Bachelor of Arts degree, obtaining first-class honours and did post-graduate work on the theology of native Baptists in a seminary in Chicago, in the United States.

New synod secretary

The Synod of the Methodist Conference has posted the Rev. Everald Galbraith to the Western St. Andrew District of Methodist Churches. He will also serve as the new secretary of the synod.

He previously served in St. Ann and lately in Montego Bay, St. James.

Rev Dr James Gibbs gets new assignment

The Rev. Dr. James Gibbs has been assigned as assistant to the Rev. Dr. Roderick Hewitt of the Hope United Church effective September 1.

Rev. Dr. Gibbs previously served at Torrington United Church, Kingston, and lately at Hellshire United Church, St. Catherine.
