SPANISH TOWN, St. Catherine:
Ninety-nine police recruits were yesterday added to the Jamaica Constabulary Force following a passing-out parade in Twickenham Park, St. Catherine.
The new members are to be assigned to the Mobile Reserve and will be integral in the security plan for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2007.
Addressing the ceremony, Jamaica Defence Force Chief of Staff, Rear Admiral Hardley Lewin, urged the new members to respect the role of the media.
"If you do something that is unacceptable that must be news, and like it or not, the media are here to stay," he said, adding that the new recruits should also maintain their integrity.
Rear Admiral Lewin also charged the police to perform their duties with discipline and responsibility. At the ceremony, Police Commissioner Lucius Thomas presented Constable Anthony Moodie with an award for the best overall performer.
