Major crimes drop in May

WESTERN BUREAU:

POLICE CRIME statistics released yesterday show a decline in the number of major crimes committed during the month of May.

A total of 672 major crimes - murders, shooting, rape, carnal abuse, robbery, break ins and larceny - were recorded, 103 less than the corresponding period for 2005.

There were 126 murders last month, 44 fewer than in May last year. Thirteen women and five children were among the murder victims last month. A total of 572 persons were killed during the first five months of this year.
