PICKERSGILL
TWO GROUPS from the Portmore community are already lobbying for an urgent meeting with Robert Pickersgill, Minister of Housing, Water, Transport and Works, to discuss the Portmore toll.
One of the groups is the Portmore Citizens' Advisory Council (PCAC), which on Monday sent a letter to the minister requesting an urgent meeting with him, following news that the Government has still not yet signed off on a toll fee.
"In light of the foregoing and the imminent hurricane season, we are extremely concerned about the lack of follow-through on the promised action, espec-ially as it relates to the repair and or upgrading of the Port Henderson Road, Nelson Mandela Highway and Marcus Garvey Drive, among other matters," said the letter.
SUPPORTING THE CALL
The Portmore Ministers' Fraternal is also supporting the call for the meeting. In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Ministers' Fraternal expressed concerns about the likely toll to be charged for the use of the newly-constructed Portmore Causeway.
When contacted yesterday, Minister Pickersgill said he has not yet seen the letter as a result of his involvement in the by-election in Westmoreland.
"I don't mind meeting with them. People are saying I am hiding but they can say anything," he said. "I know the promises that were made (but) these things are governed by things which we have no control over."
Mr. Pickersgill, however, promised he would make
a response to the request tomorrow.
