World Cup Nibbles
published: Thursday | June 8, 2006

Make a batch of Spicy Sorrel Sauce/Dip with some cold cuts, smoked chicken, plantain chips and carrot sticks. Cucumber or celery sticks work well and you can throw in some broccoli and cauliflower for the health-conscious football fan. - WINSTON SILL/FREELANCE PHOTOGRAPHER

THE 2006 FIFA World Cup Football competition kicks off in Germany tomorrow, and football fans worldwide will have their eyes glued to their television sets from sunup to sundown. They will drink in the tackles, roar at the goals, curse at the fouls and digest every exciting second of the more than 60 matches that will be played.

Now, guys, with testosterone levels already high wherever you will gather and all that intense staring at a flat screen, you might eventually become hungry. Then again, some of you may be so focused that you do not remember to eat.

For those who do get 'the munches', the whole idea is to quell your appetite without taking your eyes off the television set. Eating should not require undue effort which just might divert your attention, so forget about balancing knives and forks.

Food has compiled a list of snacks that you can enjoy without missing a moment of any match. Get the wives/girlfriends to help, or prepare it yourself and show off your skills with can openers and unscrewing bottle corks!

Cold beverages, the most popular being Red Stripe or Heineken beer.
