Education ministers meet to discuss HIV/AIDS
published: Thursday | June 8, 2006

PORT-OF-SPAIN, TRINIDAD (CMC):

Education Ministers from the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) will hold a two-day meeting in Trinidad on Friday to discuss the HIV/AIDS problem in the region.

The meeting of the Council for Human and Social Development will discuss "accelerating the education sector response to HIV and AIDS in the Caribbean region," according to an official statement issued here yesterday.

"This special meeting is intended to provide a forum for Ministers of Education and other stakeholders to examine the role of the education sector in preventing the spread of HIV/AIDS and in mitigating the effects of the disease in the region," the statement said.

It will also be used to identify techniques for strengthening of the education sector to provide an appropriate response with respect to HIV/AIDS.
