Waterhouse in driver's seat
published: Sunday | April 9, 2006

Nodley Wright, Freelance Writer

Kevin Lamey (Waterhouse).

WITH TWO scheduled sets of matches to go, including today's, leaders Waterhouse find themselves in a slightly better position than Harbour View, their only rivals for the title.

Waterhouse on 65 points play away to Constant Spring, a team favoured to join Rivoli as one of two relegated teams while Harbour View play the tough Boys' Town. Constant Spring lost 0-1 to Harbour View in midweek while Waterhouse were busy sinking Wadadah 3-1 at Waterhouse.

Constant Spring have slim hopes of beating the drop and they would be laying for that. However, their team is not deep enough to stop a Waterhouse team sensing that they are just four points away from the title. Kevin Lamey the season's leading scorer has regained his scoring touch and should add to his number.

Harbour View, whether they accept it or not, seem to stumble at crucial points in the season. Today's opponents will not allow them to get away with it. Coach Donovan Hayles said that his charges are aware of the task ahead of them.

POSITIVE APPROACH

"First of all we know what the circumstances are. We have to approach it positively. It is not about points anymore. It is about winning our two remaining matches. It is like the semi-final and final for us," Hayles explained.

At times like these Hayles said every game is hard-making reference to last Wednesday's win over Constant Spring. He added that he would rather have an efficient win than a flashy draw or loss.
"It is more the occasion than the opposition that we are playing against. As far as I am concerned, it is more about results than style at this point. As long as we get the win we are fine.

"We had one of our best games for the season against Wadadah and we did not get the result that I think we deserved," he said.

If they are to get the results they need today, they will have to do so without two of their key players, defender Jermaine Taylor and forward Richard West, both abroad representing the country's Under-21 team. Fabian Taylor will still be absent as he has not recovered from injury.

In the absence of the trio, Clifton Waugh, Kevin King, Kemar Petrekin or Marcelino Blackburn will fill in.
In two previous games Harbour View have won one and drew the other coming from 0-2 down and would much prefer another opposition today.

Boys' Town for their part are only interested in picking up points.

"Our duty is to defeat the teams ahead of us. We love all of them, but we have to do what we have to do because our pride is at stake as well," said Boys' Town stalwart and team advisor Lloyd 'Respic' Morgan who added that his team are eyeing a top four spot.

HOME GROUND DISADVANTAGE

Boys' Town which started the season with the disadvantage of not having a home ground, do not have a roster filled with stars, but can rely on committed individuals who turn up to play every time. Oneil Thompson, Denzil Watson and Jermaine Bailey have stood out, and they are expected to lead the charge once more for the promoted team.

"We wish them all the luck but we are going all out to win. It will be a good game. It is a team that we have always competed against and enjoy competing against," said Morgan of their opponents, Harbour View.

In other games Portmore should get three points from Rivoli, Wadadah should have the edge over Arnett Gardens while the Reno/Tivoli Gardens matchup could go either way.
