THE EDITOR, Sir:
AFTER YEARS of turmoil in Jamaica it's very disturbing in these modern times to hear the new Prime Minister putting so much emphasis on her faith in Christianity.
Religion is deeply planted in the British Jamaican culture.
Some 225 years ago, the division of church and state was entrenched in the United States Constitution, another former British colony. Jamaica should follow the example of America.
Religious beliefs can brain-wash people and retard their mental growth, especially those who are uneducated, and who will not accept opposing views.
MANAGE TASKS
Rhetoric, like that from Prime Minister Simpson Miller, cannot help Jamaica.
She must tackle the real Jamaican problems and lead the people to economic prosperity.
I am very happy for her, but she has to put her title aside and deal with the manageable tasks.
Jamaica is a very small island. Only the decisions we make and the work we do can fix Jamaica's problems. Again prayers can't do it, only work.
Jamaican needs education, jobs, security, and less govern-ment. Too much money has already been spent to maintain the lifestyles of these politicians, who should be working to build their beloved country.
The people need to see an ability by the ruling party and the opposition to work together for the interests of the nation.
If the leaders behave ignorantly, so will the followers.
Also the party colours have fractured and divided people and communities. We should see ourselves as one.
I am, etc.,
