Decomposed bodies of two missing men found
published: Sunday | April 9, 2006

Rasbert Turner, Gleaner Writer

SPANISH TOWN, St. Catherine:

THE BODIES of two young men, who went missing on Tuesday after a court appearance, were found in a hole near the Redemption Ground Market in Spanish Town yesterday morning at about 7:00 a.m.

They have been identified as Kevin Davis, 26, and his younger brother, Gary Smith, 19, both of 3 North, Greater Portmore, St. Catherine.

Reports reaching The Sunday Gleaner are that the police received information and went into the Redemption Ground area, where the bodies were seen in an advanced stage of decomposition.

The fire brigade was summoned to assist in removing the bodies from the appro-ximately eight-feet deep hole.

NO ROPE

However, the fire crew arrived without any rope.

After a wait of more than an hour, the bodies were eventually removed and positively identified as that of the men.

Several relatives wept openly and told The Sunday Gleaner that they did not know what the men could have done to meet such a gruesome death.

GRIEF STRICKEN RELATIVES

The mother of the deceased was grief stricken and could not give The Sunday Gleaner an interview.

However, Marcia Beckford an aunt of both men, told The Sunday Gleaner that the men appeared in the Spanish Town Resident Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, charged with offensive weapon and were fined.

She said that the last communication was from Gary.

"He called to say that they had paid the fine and were on their way from court and it was the last time that I heard from them. It is really sad and I do not know what they could have done to deserve this," she related before being overcome with grief.

Meanwhile, the St. Catherine north homicide team, headed by Deputy Supt. Neveral Smith, is conducting further investigation.
