FOURTEEN-YEAR-OLD DOMINIC Moore followed in his father's footsteps by winning the 'Star of the Moment' plaque at last Sunday's Jamaica Karting Association (JKA) meet, held at the Palisadoes International Raceway, Kingston.

The Campion College third form student emulated his 'old man' who the previous month shared the 'Star of the Moment' plaque with Mike Simmons, after an exciting showdown in the Rotax Masters Class.

"I am feeling very good, because I did not know that I would have won it," said young Moore, who has been competing against his older colleagues in the Rotax International Class since the start of the season.

According to a JKA report on the meet, Moore junior held off stiff competition in the largest field to record the class win.

His pole position combined with his two wins against the best 'young guns' in Jamaica earned him the prestigious 'Star of the Meet' award.

Other successful karters at the meet included the veteran Peter Rae who was competing in the Rotax Master Class for the first time this year and who won all three races in that class, with his DHL kart. Another member of the DHL Team, Sebastien Rae, finished third in the KFC Shifter Class.

2005 Junior Sportsman Light Class champion, Matthew Williams, came back from his injury break to dominate the class by winning all three races. Timothy Stewart was also in good form, winning two of the three races in the Rotax Junior Class. He is currently leading in overall points, hoping to gain his third lien on the Abe Ziadie Trophy.

Mario Mair finally broke his string of bad luck to record his first win of the season in the final Junior Sportsman race. Also winning his first race of the year was Chad Phillips.

Another top performer was Peter Moodie Jr. who drove a new Gillard Shifter kart. He broke the track record during the qualifying session, then went on to dominate the Shifter Class by winning two of the three races.
