THE LARGEST and most important art event for this year takes place on Sunday, May 21. Liguanea Plaza in Matilda's Corner will come alive with Jamaica's leading artists and photographers showcasing their works of art, and will be there in person to discuss their favourite pieces and latest techniques. The festival is the brainchild of husband and wife team, June and Tony Wong of Liguanea Drug & Garden Centre, main sponsors of this event, along with major sponsorship from the Gleaner Company and other companies to be confirmed.
This is the third consecutive year that they will host this popular and well-organised festival, featuring the best that Jamaica has to offer in the visual arts. All artists and photographers must be present to meet the public, which is one of the requirements of all exhibitors. This year, additional parking is available in the adjoining premises behind the plaza for the convenience of patrons, and adequate security will be provided.
Among the exhibits are pencil and ink drawings, acrylic and watercolour paintings, mixed media, ceramics, sculptures, pewter, colour and black-and-white photographs printed on paper, canvas, and other materials. All the artists are busy creating and producing to make this show the best yet. Many of the big names have already confirmed their presence as they look forward to their special day on show to Jamaica and the world.
