Arnett end drought
published: Monday | March 13, 2006

LeVaughn Flynn, Staff Reporter

ARNETT GARDENS got their first win of the third round to give new coach Bradley Stewart his first victory as the 'Junglists' nipped Rivoli United 2-1 at Tony Spaulding Sports Complex yesterday.

Arnett's last win in the Wray and Nephew National Premier League was more than two months ago, on January 8. when they hammered Reno 5-1. But with injuries to a number of their players and coaching changes, Arnett went on a six-game losing streak.

However, Jonathan Williams and Kwame Richardson ended that skid with goals in the 10th and 62nd minutes respectively. In the 83rd minute, Kemar Mills pulled one back for Rivoli, who seem on their way out of the premiership as they are at the bottom of the standings on 18 points.

Arnett are in joint seventh place with Seba United on 34 points.

The wiry, energetic Williams was involved in both goals. He craftily curved the ball around a defender and the outstretched arms of the goalie to get the first before beautifully supplying the fleet-footed Richardson for the second.

Stewart, in his third game as Arnett Gardens head coach, said: "Winning has a special feeling and if they can tap into that feeling a little more often then it is easier to get them to work when they are having some successes and hopefully this will motivate them."

Rivoli coach Calvert Fitz-gerald said his team was full of motivation despite occupying the last spot.

"We fought back and played hard and demotivated teams don't fight back. I am pleased with the way we played," he said.
