ST. CATHERINE Cricket Club maintained their lead atop the Supreme Ventures Super Cup, while defending champions Manchester picked up their first win as the curtain fell on all third- round games yesterday.
St. Catherine carved out an innings and 55-run win over Lucas at Nelson Oval to move to 13 points. Victory was set up by leg-spinner Bevan Brown who returned second innings figures 5-36 for a match haul of 10-72, and Jermaine Lawson 4-46.
Brown's figures were the same in the first innings while Lawson seemed to have taken the place of Odean Brown who had returned 4-46 in Lucas' first time at bat.
St. Catherine had replied with an imposing 333-9 declared after Lucas had posted 132 in the first innings. In their second time at bat, Lucas were only able to score 146 runs of which Gary Herbine topscored with 42.
At Allan Rae Oval, Donovan Sinclair completed his second century of the season, an unbeaten 101 in Manchester's innings and a 60-run win over Westmoreland. It was the second century in the game after Gary Graham scored 111 on Saturday's first day.
RESTRICTION
After Andre Dwyer's 6-32 had restricted Westmoreland to 107, Manchester, which moved to eight points, replied with 346 for five and then knocked Westmoreland over for 179. Dwyer claimed 6-44 in the second innings for match figures of 12 for 78.
At Melbourne Oval, Melbourne beat St. Mary by an innings and 46 runs. Donovan Pagon (86) and Andre McCarthy (49) helped Melbourne to 230. St. Mary were dismissed for 81 in their first time at bat. Following on, St. Mary could muster only 107. Leon bent claimed 3-38 in St. Mary's second innings.
Melbourne moved to 10 points while St. Mary are glued to the bottom of the 10-team table on two points.
At Alpart, Kingston barely avoided an embarrassing defeat at the hands of St. Elizabeth.
St. Elizabeth batted first and made 170 and then dismissed Kingston for 188. Facing a deficit of 18, St. Elizabeth scrambled up to 160 in their second innings with Brenton Parchment top-scoring with 47 and Shane Powell 39. Jimmy Adams claimed 4-33 with his legspinners and returned to help Kingston save face when they chased 143 for victory. Adams, who batted to the end with Dainel McCallum (18 not out), was undefeated on 23 in Kingston's 48-6 at the end.
Pacer Conroy Miller had removed opener Simon Jackson from a duck off the first ball of the innings and from there on it was all downhill. Richard Johnson (0), Roland Holder (0) and Jamie Trenchfield (1), Ewan White (0) and Terry Scott (0) all perished by the time Kingston reached six runs.
