ICC CWC West Indies 2007 Inc. is seeking volunteers to assist with the Caribbean's hosting of the Cricket World Cup (CWC) next year. Below are some frequently asked questions on volunteering.
Q. Who will be allowed to volunteer?
A. Only Caribbean nationals and residents will be considered for general volunteers.
Q. What is a volunteer?
A. A volunteer is a person who expresses a willingness to undertake to provide a service free of charge for a specific event.
Q. If you have no prior cricket knowledge, can you still volunteer?
A. Yes, as long as you have a desire to be of service, you can be trained.
Q. If I originate from the local community, complete the full period of training, will I automatically become a volunteer?
A. No, you must be cleared by the Accreditation Committee before being accepted as a volunteer.
Q. Will volunteers be considered employees of ICC CWC West Indies 2007 Inc.?
A. No, the volunteer is what is called in the industry, an independent contractor and not an employee.
Q. When I volunteer, should I expect to be paid?
A. No, volunteers are not paid employees and should not undertake this role primarily for financial reward.
Q. Will volunteers be trained in the specific areas of need?
A. Yes, all volunteers will be trained in their specific areas of interest, as well as general training in cricket orientation, customer service, interpersonal skills, dealing with conflict, stress management, etc.
Q. Will volunteers only be selected if they speak English?
A. All volunteers must be able to speak and read English fluently. However, additional language skills will be an asset.
Q. Will I be accepted if I don't meet all the following criteria?
A. The following are the requirements for the programme:
A minimum educational background (three to five CXC/GCE subjects).
Friendly and positive manner.
Have been cleared by security.
Q. Will any arrangements be made for the provision of catering and transport for the volunteers?
A. All volunteers will be provided with an allowance to defray the cost of refreshments and transport.
Q. Will volunteers be given any memorabilia?
A. An incentive programme will be introduced that will allow volunteers to be given certain items of merchandise.
Q. What can each volunteer hope to get after this event?
A. A Certificate of Participation will be issued to all volunteers, in addition to attempts being made to have credits awarded for training completed. These credits can then be used towards further developmental studies.
Q. Will a person be allowed to volunteer, even if they have not completed the full ICC CWC training course?
A. No person will be allowed to volunteer unless they have completed the full training.
Q. Who will be responsible for developing the training?
A. The ICC CWC Volunteer Department will develop the training in conjunction with the Local Organising Committees (LOCs).
Q. Is there a policy regarding clothing?
A. Uniforms will be provided for all volunteers, and are not to be altered under any condition without prior approval from your respective LOC.
