JOHNSON
THE GLEANER'S Westmoreland correspondent Cedric Johnson passed away last Thursday. He was 60.
Reports reaching The Gleaner are that Mr. Johnson, who started working at The Gleaner in 2001, collapsed while in a bank in Westmoreland and had to be rushed to Savanna-la-Mar Hospital. He was later airlifted to University Hospital of the West Indies (UHWI) in St. Andrew where he died.
Mrs. Marion Lee-Johnson, who in February celebrated their 10th anniversary, describes him as a devoted father and friend.
"He was a loving and caring person ... a good father and husband," she said. "He will surely be missed."
Managing editor of The Gleaner, Jenni Campbell said that Mr. Johnson's passing is a terrible loss to the profession.
"Rural correspondents ensure that the news and views of their communities get national attention... and Mr. Johnson was committed to the profession," said Ms. Campbell. "He was an asset."
Mr. Johnson is survived by his father, wife and two children.
