'Lose it or don't cook for me'
published: Monday | March 13, 2006

Nails that are too long can be a turn-off for some men. These nails were done by Total Beauty. - NORMAN GRINDLEY /DEPUTY CHIEF PHOTOGRAPHER

SOME MEN are indifferent to women who cling to long finger nails and vow they will never allow them to cook for them.

"I'm not particularly fond of them because it is an unnecessary piece of apparatus on the female anatomy, and a woman is more complete when she is all natural. I definitely wouldn't allow a woman who wears long nails whether natural or false, to cook my food," said Peter Lopez, a 20-year-old Christian.

DISTASTEFUL

Similarly, one woman, testified that her fiancée finds nail extensions distasteful and has begged her not to cook for him until she removes them. However, she believes that this demand is unfair because, "if I don't wear long nails and look good he will be the one to turn around and laugh at my hands, so I have to put my beauty first and deep down these same men who say they don't like it secretly find them attractive," she complained.

Some medical experts say nail extensions are both healthy and unhealthy. "It all depends on the individual and how they keep it, but also it is harder to maintain hygienically than the natural nails."

Nail technician, Ricardo Bonnick said wearing false nails too often can be harmful, but if worn only on special occasions there is nothing to worry about. He advises that garlic or nail strengthener should be used to restore nails that have been damaged as a result of the chemicals.

But for many women, being beautiful can be painful but they are willing to take the consequences and so they will continue to wear nail extensions.
