THE JAMAICA Constabulary Force (JCF) will intensify its drive to recruit 1,500 new members at the end of January, Gilbert Scott, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of National Security, said yesterday.
Mr. Scott said the procedure had been stalled temporarily by the Yuletide season but was expected to gather momentum in three weeks.
"The general recruitment is ongoing but by the end of January, we will be aggressively stepping up the campaign," Mr. Scott told The Gleaner.
OVERSEAS COPS
He said the JCF is continuing to eye senior cops from overseas to join its ranks but did not go into detail as to how far that process had reached.
In November, National Security Minister Dr. Peter Phillips announced that the JCF would be looking for 1,500 recruits over 18 months to boost the JCF's numbers to 10,000.
This, he said, would be part of Government's plans to fight gangs in some of the country's toughest enclaves.
GOING INTO SCHOOLS
Following the minister's statement Deputy Commissioner of Police Jevene Bent, said the police would be expanding its recruitment base, as well as going into schools to encourage persons to take up a career in the JCF.
Last November, 181 persons graduated from the Police Academy in Twickenham Park.
Ten days later, 25 recruits graduated from the motorcycle training division at Elletson Road.
