DESPITE THE rain, there was the customary heavy turnout of mostly women at Thursday's Jamaica Cancer Society's Keeping Abreast luncheon. It was held at the Hilton Kingston Hotel.
Over 500 guests turned up to take part in the event from which funds will be used for the prevention and control of cancer in Jamaica.
Guests speaker was Dr. Ronda Henry-Tillman. An accomplished oncologist, she declared startling facts about breast cancer and reinforced in the minds of those in attendance the importance of their attendance. She lauded the efforts of the Jamaica Cancer Society and the major sponsors of the fund-raising event, Pan Caribbean Financial Services, for helping in the fight against the disease which, she said, is the most common cancer in women and the second major killing cancer of people all across the world.
Anya Schnoor, senior vice-president and chief operating officer of Pan Caribbean Financial Services, revealed startling statistics about the disease, particularly that one in every eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer.
Master of ceremonies Fae Ellington had many in stitches during her numerous visits to the podium. She, along with musicians Wayne Armond and Richard McDonald, perfectly entertained the gathering while they enjoyed an amazingly delicious meal.
