WOMEN ABDUCTED, robbed, and raped screams the headline. Family members bow their heads in grief on the evening news on television. The horror stories of women and children being raped have been told over and over again, but do you really know how traumatic the experience can be?It has been three years since 31-year-old Kenisha Brownwas raped by three armed men, but today, just talking about the events of that horrific night, brings free-flowing tears to her eyes.
Kenisha, who resides in rural Jamaica, related her experience to The Sunday Gleaner last week.
The young woman, who works in the tourism industry, said she had finished working about 8:30 p.m. one August evening and had gone to a well-lit area near her workplace to get a taxi home. She was at the bus stop for about 10 minutes when a motor car, which she thought was a taxi, pulled over.
She said there were two men and another occupant in the car who she presumed was a female because of the passenger's 'long' hair.
However, when she entered the vehicle, she realised that it was a man.
"During the journey, I noticed that the car was extremely quiet and upon observing this, I realised that the passenger in the back was making eye contact with the driver via the rear view mirror," she explained.
That was when a flurry of emotions started running through Kenisha's head.
She had become suspicious so she decided to ask to stop at the nearest let-off point.
"Lawd have mercy, dem a go rape mi tonight," she told herself.
APPLY THE SAFETY LATCH
"When they reached the entrance, the driver slowed down and told the passenger in the front to apply the safety latch which he did."
Kenisha told The Sunday Gleaner that the passenger who was in the back of the car then pulled a gun and told her to empty her handbag.
"They told me that if I said anything they would do what they had to do." A frightened Kenisha did what she was told.
"They drove to what looked like a shooting range in an isolated area in St. Mary. I was told to get out of the vehicle and make no noise," she related.
Kenisha said she started begging, but all of that was in vain as the driver told her to unbutton her clothes as soon as she got out of the car. Out of fear for her life, she complied immediately, with his help. His rough hands nearly ripped the fabric of her clothes as he hastily clawed her flesh.
"He then sexually assaulted me on the bonnet of the car," an emotional Kenisha told The Sunday Gleaner.
At this point in the interview, Kenisha started to cry and found it difficult to continue with the dialogue. But in a nutshell, all three men took turns in raping her.
She later told The Sunday Gleaner that she received counselling, but she is still affected by the vicious experience.
"I don't have a problem socialising, but every human being I come across, I fear them at first," she said.
The incident has forced Kenisha to avoid public places as much as possible.
