EU reaches agreement on Turkey
LUXEMBOURG (AP): EUROPEAN UNION (EU) nations reached a tentative agreement yesterday to open full membership talks with Turkey, diplomats said. But a spokesman for Turkey's Prime Minister said Ankara had not yet approved the document.

Schroeder backs away from leadership claim
BERLIN (AP): CHANCELLOR GERHARD Schroeder said yesterday that he did not want to prevent the formation of a stable government, sending an apparent signal that he may drop his demand to continue leading Germany.
