COKE-LLOYD
THE JAMAICA EMPLOYEE FEDERATION Employer Of Choice for is to be announced
at a banquet to be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2005 at the Jamaica Pegasus Hotel.
Red Stripe Jamaica Ltd. copped the top prize last year and was also the winner in the JEF Large Employer Of Choice category. Capital & Credit Merchant Bank and GlaxoSmithkline were named the winners in the Medium and Small Business categories, respectively.
The objective of the JEF Employer Of Choice Award is to identify and recognise exemplary employers operating here in Jamaica. This is based on how they measure up to international benchmarks as well as a set of criteria selected by a cross-section of over 1,000 Jamaican employees representing various sectors. Learning opportunities, good corporate image, compensation, fringe benefits, profitability, career choice, health and safety, treatment by management, and the long-term goals were ranked by the employees as the most important factors when selecting their Employer of Choice.
SELECTION PROCESS
As obtained last year, the selection process to be used by the Jamaica Employers' Federation to identify the Employer of Choice was adapted from the various selection processes used in similar competitions overseas. Amendments were made in order that the final procedure would reflect local economic and business-related factors.
APPLICATION FORM
The process for selecting this year's winner has already started with companies being invited to complete an pplication form indicating their interest in participating in this event. On receipt of the completed Forms, the JEF Secretariat will then request specific data from the respective companies. Site visits and interviews will also be used by the JEF team to obtain and verify information submitted.
According to JEF's Executive Director Mrs. Jacqueline Coke-Lloyd, "There are benefits for every company or organisation which participates in the JEF Employer Of Choice selection process. At the end of the process, each will receive an evaluation of that company's strengths as well as those areas which require, improvement. This will be based on an analysis of the information received by the JEF and its team," Mrs. Coke-Lloyd noted.
An Employer Of Choice values the important role that employees play in the achievement of a company's goals and would, therefore, want to know how the company measures up to the expectations of its employees.
