YOUNG REGGAE Boy Luton Shelton's ambitions of playing for English Championship division team Burnley have been put on hold after he was denied a work permit by the United Kingdom's Home Office yesterday.
Shelton, who had made a good impression on Burnley's manager Steve Cotterill, had hoped to join the club which is already four games into its season. The striker's problems stemmed from the fact that he is below the 75 per cent participation requirement for a two-season period in Jamaica's competitive matches which is stipulated by the U.K. Overseas Labour Service (OLS).
Burnley sent the request to the Home Office as an appeal based on the knowledge that Shelton did not directly meet the requirements for the permit.
Shelton has however been advised by his agent, Phil Graham, to continue playing for local National Premier League side Harbour View until the transfer window re-opens in January.
