CLIVE NICHOLAS, director general of Tax Administration, has retired from that post.
His retirement took effect from July 26 this year.
"I haven't got used to retirement yet," he told The Gleaner yesterday during a brief interview.
The 65-year-old Mr. Nicholas headed Tax Administration which comprises the Customs Department, Taxpayer Audit and Assessment Department (TAAD), Tax Administration Services Department, Tax Appeals Department, and Inland Revenue Department.
He is succeeded by Vinette Keene who was promoted from commissioner for TAAD.
Mr. Nicholas began working in the Income Tax Department in 1964 and rose to the rank of senior assistant commissioner of
the Information and Intelligence Unit in 1979.
From 1982 to 1990, he worked as a special agent at the Criminal Investigation Branch of the Revenue Board and in 1991 was promoted to senior assistant revenue commissioner where he was responsible for the management of cases selected for special investigation with a view to initiating criminal prosecution.
Later that year, he was designated commissioner with responsibility for organising and directing the policies and programmes for the administration of the General Consumption Tax (GCT) Act and Regulations.
