published: Monday | April 25, 2005

ENNIS-LONDON

NATIONAL 100 metres hurdles champion Delloreen Ennis-London, Tayna Lawrence, Shereefa Lloyd and Ricardo Williams were among five Jamaican winners at the weekend's TCU Invitational held at the Lowden Track Complex in Texas.

In the sprint hurdles, Ennis-London, a semi-finalist at last year's Olympic Games, clocked a wind-aided 12.97 seconds to beat Texas Christian University's MaKeatha Cooper (13.47) and Leah Matthews of S. F. Austin St. (14.16).

Lawrence, who ran the opening leg on Jamaica's gold medal winning 4x100m women's quartet at the Athens Olympics, continued her good form this season with a 11.28 seconds clocking in the women's 100m.

In racing to the 2.1 metre-per second wind-assisted time, Lawrence, defeated Vigil Hodge (11.43) and Kandis Bell of Texas Christian (11.64). Beverley McDonald was disqualified for false-starting in this event.

In the men's 200m, Williams raced to a 20.67 seconds clocking. He defeated Mike Fraser unattached (20.86) and Tyree Gailes of Texas Tech (20.89).

Meanwhile, Isa Phillips, formerly of St. Andrew Technical, won the men's 400m hurdles. Representing South Plains Community College, Phillips, ran 50.25 to beat Nate Garcia unattached (50.64). Former Vere athlete Shereefa Lloyd won the women's 400m. Lloyd, now attending Texas Christian, clocked 52.35. Another former Vere athlete, Maris Wisdom, was ninth in 57.13.
