SPALDINGS, Clarendon:
USERS OF the Spaldings to Alston main road in north west Clarendon are calling on the National Works Agency (NWA) to effect well-needed repairs to the Santa Hill road which is the alternative route following the closure of the main road at Zinc Shop.
The main road had been order closed by the agency two weeks ago to repair sections which were damaged by the passage of Hurricane Ivan last September.
According to the road users, the Santa Hill road was in need of repairs and has worsened since the heavy rains started.
They have accused the NWA of being hasty in closing the main road without taking steps to ensure that the alternative route was suitable.
Taxi operators who have to ply the Spaldings to Alston and Cave Valley routes complained to The Gleaner that a sections of the road are riddled with potholes and they could be forced to pull their vehicles off the road if something is not done.
The closure of the road, according a statement issued by the National Works Agency, is expected to be four-week exercise.
But, according to Member of Parliament for the area Richard Azan, the four weeks could be too short a period of time to complete the work and expected that it could be closed for an even longer period.
Efforts by The Gleaner to contact the contractors for a comment on the situation proved futile.
