QUARTER-FINALISTS IN the ISSA Pepsi/Sports Plus daCosta Cup schoolboys' football competition were decided yesterday.

Black River High and defending champions Frome Technical from Group Two, Glenmuir from Group Five and Dinthill and Titchfield from Group Six joined early qualifiers Godfrey Stewart, Lennon and Christiana as the teams in the final eight.

BLACK RIVER THROUGH

Black River booked their spot after beating Cedric Titus 4-1 in their Group Two game at the Elliston Wakeland Community Centre in Falmouth to take the automatic qualifying spot, beating defending champions Frome Technical on goal difference. Former champions Dinthill Technical won Group Six after beating Garvey Maceo 1-0 at Prison Oval to edge last season's beaten finalists Titchfield on more goals scored after both schools finished with seven points and a plus four goal difference each.

The 0-0 draw between Old Harbour and Seaforth played before only officials at Vauxhall High in Kingston, meant Glenmuir won Group Five, while Titchfield grabbed the spot left for the best second place team and Frome just squeezed in for the other spot, left for the other second place team.

The first round of the Ben Francis Knockout will take the spotlight tomorrow with four games scheduled. Dinthill play Titchfield, Glenmuir play Black River, Christiana play Frome Technical and Godfrey Stewart meet Lennon.

The next round of the daCosta Cup will be played on Saturday with Christiana playing Godfrey Stewart, Glenmuir playing Titchfield, Lennon facing Black River and Dinthill playing Frome.

At Elliston yesterday, Black River held the upper hand for most of the game but had to wait until the second half when Everett Mullings scored twice in the span of a minute to put the game out of reach of the Trelawny team.

Lamar Hodges had given Black River the lead after 17 minutes with a brilliant goal, beating goalkeeper Veron Walker with a fierce shot from about 25 yards.

Cedric Titus drew level in the 26th minute, however, when Shannavan Wilson converted a penalty after he was fouled in the box by Mullings.

He made up for his mistake in the second half with two quick goals that knocked the fight out of the Cedric Titus team.
