THE GERMAN steamship
company, Harpa Shipping & Chartering, based in Bremen, has introduced a
new vessel, the MV CFS Pamplona to its Caribbean Feeder Services.
The Pamplona arrived at the port of Kingston on October 15 after completing
her maiden
voyage across the Atlantic.
The vessel docked at berth two at Kingston Wharves and Captain Oleg Rizhkov
and crew were welcomed during a special reception aboard the 700 twenty-foot
equivalent units (TEU) vessel.
Managing director of Perez y Cia Jamaica, Andreas Schorlemmer, led the welcome
delegation, which also included staff members and other representatives of the
shipping community.
Marlene Schorlemmer, wife of Andreas, christened the vessel in Berne, Germany
on September 24. She had been invited by Peter Harren, president of Harpa Shipping
& Chartering GmbH & Co KG. Bremen, Germany.
SEVEN-VESSEL FLEET
The company operates a fleet of seven vessels for providing feeder services
to distribute transshipment cargo in the Caribbean, Central and South America
north coast.
The port of Kingston is
extremely important for this service as approximately 80 per cent of all cargo
handled is loaded and unloaded at Port Bustamante. Kingston is the hub for regional
connections to other ports in the region.
Perez y Cia Jamaica Ltd. is the agent for the German ship owner and provides
tonnage centre
functions for the service. MV CFS Pamplona can carry 700 TEUs nominal,
or 425 TEUs at 14 tons, has 140 reefer plugs and a service speed of 17 knots.
