MANDEVILLE, Manchester:
THE HANBURY Home for children, which was severely damaged by Hurricane Ivan, leaving the more than 100 children housed at the facility cramped for space, recently received a financial boost by Windalco.
The bauxite company handed over a cheque worth $1 million to its director, Major Richards, to replace the roofs and carry out other repairs to the damaged buildings.
Windalco General Manager Michael Collins said that his company had a "long and proud association with Hanbury Home" and will "remain a friend" to the institution and continue to give its assistance.
Mr. Collins also said that as individuals and as a
corporate body, his company's personnel recognise the
"outstanding contribution" that Hanbury Home is making to the society.
Major Richards said he was deeply thankful for the donation while pointing out that the home had been benefiting from Windalco (formerly Alcan) for more than 40 years. The contribution, he said, will assist the institution to effect rehabilitation to the dormitories and other areas that were in dire need of repairs.
Present for the handover were representatives of the Salvation Army, members of the community and Windalco Communication Officer Kayon Wallace-Headley.
