IN A bid to increase its revenue and encourage early postage during the Yuletide season, the Postal Corporation (Post Corp) has reduced the postal rates attached to sending Christmas cards.
"We are doing it now to try and generate more mail and early mail. It gives us less headaches if we have it in hand early so that we can process it earlier," said Gordon Brown, public relations and marketing manager at the Post Corp.
The relaxed rates, which came into effect yesterday and will culminate on Christmas Eve, are applicable solely to Christmas cards. In order for the discount to come into effect, the envelopes must be left open. "If it is sealed, it is considered first class postage and the regular rate will be applied," Mr. Gordon explained.
Persons wanting their Christmas cards and packages to arrive on time, especially those headed for the United States and United Kingdom, should try to get them posted at least two weeks before Christmas.
