New ambassador to Cuba appointed

MINISTER OF Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, K.D. Knight, has announced the appointment of Elinor Felix-Sherlock, director of protocol at the foreign
ministry, as ambassador to the Republic of Cuba.

She succeeds Ambassador Stewart Stephenson, who ended his tour of duty in May.

Mrs. Felix-Sherlock joined the staff of the ministry of foreign affairs and foreign trade in 2000 as assistant director of the
protocol department and became director in September 2002.

Prior to this, she was conference services manager at Jamaica Conference Centre and vice-president of operations at InterCaribe Limited, a Jamaican company involved in the promotion of trade and investment opportunities between Cuba and Jamaica.

LINGUIST, EDUCATION OFFICER

Mrs. Felix-Sherlock worked with Jamaica Promotions Limited (JAMPRO) BETWEEN 1987-1993 as senior director
in the missions and seminars division, as well as in the public relations division.

A former education officer with the Ministry of Education, Mrs. Felix-Sherlock, a linguist, has also worked as a senior administrator at the Language Training Centre and has taught French and Spanish at Immaculate Conception High School.

The ambassador-designate is the holder of a double master's degree from the University of the West Indies ­ MBA tourism and management, and M.Sc., government.

She is also a justice of the peace and first vice-president of the Kiwanis Club of New Kingston.
