Cricket business symposium today
published: Tuesday | November 2, 2004

JAMAICAN entrepreneurs will learn about the opportunities that the staging of the Cricket World Cup 2007 can make at a seminar today.

Dr. Ali Bacher, chairman of the committee that planned South Africa's successful staging of Cricket World Cup 2003, will be the guest speaker at the one-day Cricket World Cup 2007 business symposium.

Under the theme, 'It's more than cricket it's business', the seminar is scheduled for 8:00 a.m. at the Mona Visitors' Lodge on the UWI Mona Campus.

Dr. Bacher's presentation will look at how South Africa successfully staged the prestigious international event and the long-term gains.

He will also be sharing the result of an assessment done to ascertain the level of profitability of the South African event the first time that these results will be made known.

Looking at both individual and national gains, the event is being facilitated by the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce (JCC), JAMPRO and the Mona School of Business.

Also on the roster of speakers will be Dr. Wayne Reid, chairman of Jamaica Cricket 2007 Limited, who will outline the terms of the yellow package that has been awarded Jamaica; Chris Dehring, managing director of ICC Cricket World Cup West Indies 2007 Limited, who will give an overview of the region's role and responsibilities for the 2007 event and Errol Greene, chief executive officer of the Kingston City Centre Improvement Company, who will outline development plans for downtown Kingston, which will also benefit the staging of the Cricket World Cup.
