Adrian Coote's heroics ignites West Cumberland Flames
published: Saturday | February 28, 2004

ADRIAN COOTE'S game-high 33 points on Thursday against Runnin' Rebels not only helped his team, West Cumberland Flames, to end a three-game losing streak but earned him the Cable & Wireless Mobile Player of the Week for February 21-27 in the KFC/C&W National Basketball League (NBL).

During that period, Coote averaged 23 points, nine rebounds and 2.7 steals in three games to earn himself $2,000.

Coote dropped six three-pointers against Rebels in a 74-55 hammering of the former champs. After bursting out in the first quarter to a 26-9 lead, Flames remained on top and never relinquished the lead for their second victory of the season.

Flames' coach Kevin Pinnock said: "After losing three games straight this win is certainly a lift for us."

NBL action continues today with a triple-header at the Stadium courts.

St. George's Slayers' guard Owain Hall has a tough task ahead of him as he looks to lead his team against reigning champs Tivoli All-Stars when they meet in the first game at 3:00 p.m.

Braves Chiefs and Rae Town Raptors clash at 5:00 p.m. and Link-Up All-Stars and Urban Knights at 7:00 p.m. complete the day's schedule.

Hall was the C&W Mobile Player of the Week between February 14-20 when he averaged 19 points, 11 assists, 7.5 steals and 5.5 rebounds per game. This impressive statistic line makes Hall a crucial weapon in the Slayers' attack.

Tivoli have only played two games so far, splitting their fortunes with a loss and a win, and are yet to assert themselves as reigning champs.

Slayers have amassed six points from four games with two wins and two losses and are a point behind early leaders Harbour View Lakers, Denham Town Wizards and West Cumberland Flames.
