Santos aiming to cement lead
published: Saturday | February 28, 2004

SANTOS WILL commence their bid to take the lead in the KSAFA/JNBS Super League when they go head-to-head with seventh-placed Rockfort today at Rockfort.

Rockfort, at home, will be playing for pride with a place in the top four already out of their grasp. With two games to go in the round, Rockfort find themselves on 23 points and winning their remaining games would give them a maximum of 29 points, a point less than fifth placed Barbican.

Santos, on the other hand, have it all to play for as with 32 points all of the top five teams could go past them. However, they do have three games to play and if they get maximum points they will surge past leaders Maverley Hughenden, who only have two games remaining and can only get a maximum of 39 points while Santos could move to 41 points.

Bull Bay and Barbican are in precarious positions with the league stage coming to a close. Barbican will play Duhaney Park at Duhaney Park, with 30 points and two games to play today. Their maximum of 36 points could take them into fourth place, a position now held by Bull Bay who are also on 30 points.

With the same number of games to go, Bull Bay have to be careful as they meet Olympic Gardens, bottom feeders playing for pride, at the Bull Pen. If they aren't they could lose fourth.

If Bull Bay achieve the maximum number of points from their two remaining games they could get the nod ahead of Barbican if the difference the two have in goals remains the same.

In the day's other game, JDF will do battle with Real Mona at Up Park Camp. The soldiers are the only team with any chance of continuing their season from the encounter.

JDF are presently in sixth place with 23 points and three games in hand. If they were to maximise on those three games their point tally would be improved to 32, which would take them to fourth but they will have to hope for favourable results from Bull Bay and Barbican games.

Mona, with 15 points and two games to play, are fighting to avoid relegation to the Major League. They are four points ahead of Duhaney Park and need to keep it that way with Duhaney Park also having two games in hand.

What is even more interesting is that Duhaney Park have a better goal difference than Real Mona so they can't afford to allow them to catch up on points.

All games start at 3:30.
