THE BODY of 26 year-old Jonathan Bessiers was found about 6:00 a.m. yesterday in bushes adjacent to the National Water Commission's treatment plant in White Marl, St. Catherine.

Reports reaching The Gleaner are that residents of the White Marl area heard explosions about 11:00 p.m. Thursday night and called the police. Upon their arrival the area was searched and no one was found.

The St. Catherine South Police however, seized a Honda Civic motor car and a Toyota Pick-up that were on the scene. The police said the vehicles are believed to have been stolen.

About 6:00 a.m. yesterday members of the St. Catherine South Police went back to the area and found Bessiers' body with what appeared to be gunshot wounds. The body was removed by the Spanish Town Funeral Home.

CHANGED HIS NAME

The police informed The Gleaner that the dead man's name was originally Jonathan Marsh. He reportedly changed his name to Jonathan Bessiers after serving a sentence for larceny of motor vehicle.

Reports are that Bessieres had gone to 'China Town' in Windsor Heights St. Catherine at about 11:30 on Thursday night to pick up a 2004 Honda motor car that he had arranged to buy for $40,000.

It is alleged that the deal turned sour after the men with whom he had gone to do business realised that he was packing a pistol. They shot him and took his firearm, according to the police.
