What an evil letter
published: Saturday | February 28, 2004

THE EDITOR, Sir:

'DEPORT THE Haitians': What an evil letter. How can some people be so callous? When we think of the thousands of Jamaicans who illegally entered other countries and are now established, educated, and are contributing to the growth of Jamaica and the their adopted country, what if those people, when illegal immigrants, were rounded up and deported?

I am so very proud of all those people who have and continue to open their hearts and homes to those desperate Haitians. That's what Jamaica is all about, showing love and extending a hand to others. God bless them.

To those who are calling for the deportation of the Haitians, "Shame on you", please do not forget that Jamaica is also a poor country. From time to time, Jamaica has to turn to others for help. I can clearly remember the flood of 1979, Hurricane Gilbert, and a few other occasions.

Let's not forget, there will always be times when Jamaica has to seek assistance from others. Please, do unto others as is expected to be done to us.

I am, etc.,
