Ja's Wright in charge of WI B
published: Wednesday | December 31, 2003

By Anthony Foster, Freelance Writer

FORMER JAMAICA cricket team manager Lyndel Wright has been named manager of the West Indies B team for next month's Carib Cup Series, which bowls off on January 9.

Wright, a project manager at the National Housing Development Corporation (NHDC), was replaced as Jamaica's manager by Maurice Clarke for the upcoming series, despite guiding the national team to three four-day titles (2000 Busta Cup, 2001 Busta International Shield and 2002 Busta Cup).

The former Boys' Town and Jamaica player, who is known to be a disciplinarian, will have under his guidance former national Youth players Danza Hyatt and Dwight Washington, both who were named to the West Indies B 14-man squad.

The Jamaica Cricket Association (JCA) yesterday confirmed that 20-year-old batsman Hyatt and fast bowler Washington, 20, who were left out of Jamaica's 16-man squad, are Jamaica's picks on the B squad made up of 'left-over' players.

Hyatt scored 191 runs from six innings in Jamaica trial matches while Washington bowled with control, but was unable to find a place in the pace attack.

Meanwhile, Young West Indies World Cup skipper Dinesh Ramdin has been named captain of the team for the first two rounds, before the team departs for a youth tournament in Bangladesh in February.

Wicketkeeper/batsman Ramdin will be joined by Lendl Simmons, Assad Fudadin and Mervyn Matthew as the four Under-19 players in the B team.

Another Jamaican, wicketkeeper/batsman Chadwrick Walton who is on standby looks set to join the squad when the selectors meet to name the four replacements.

The full squad: Dinesh Ramdin (Trinidad - captain), Ryan Ramdass (Guyana), Jason Haynes (Barbados), Lendl Simmons (Trinidad), Assad Fudadin (Guyana), Danza Hyatt (Jamaica), Gregory Mohabir (Trinidad), Anderson Sealy (Barbados), Mervin Matthew (Windward Islands), Jason Bennett (Barbados), Dwight Washington (Jamaica), Kenroy Williams (Barbados), Dennis George (Windward Islands), Antonio Thomas (Barbados). Manager Lyndel Wright (Jamaica) and coach Roddy Estwick (Barbados).
