BUSINESS OPERATORS in the town of Spaldings experienced brisk business on Christmas Eve. Checks by The Gleaner on some of the leading business places in that town showed that customers were busy carrying out last-minute shopping up to early Christmas day.
At the SuperPlus, Sam Fo and Chok's supermarkets, shoppers lined up to get their favourite grocery items. However, manager of the SuperPlus food store in the centre of the town, Sharon Peart, reported that sales up to 2:00 p.m. were less than expected.
LATE SHOPPERS
Things picked up as the day came to a close, with the usual late shoppers turning up to acquire their items, even as late as 3:00 Christmas morning. At the Samfo Super-market, proprietor Paul Lyn reported that business was good.
However, he said that although there were more people passing through the turnstiles, their spending power appeared limited.
According to the businessman, from what he picked up from shoppers, they were only purchasing the basics, as school fees and other expenses will have to be attended to come January.
He also praised the effort of the police for the way they organised themselves and executed their duties, especially the parking of vehicles in the town, and for keeping the traffic flowing. He said preparations made earlier in the week for parking allowed shoppers to go about their business in an orderly and hassle-free manner.
