By Junior Grandison, Gleaner WriterSAVANNA-LA-MAR, Westmoreland:
THE HEAVY showers which lashed most of the parish on Christmas Eve did not dampen the holiday spirit as thousands of people from all across this parish and neighbouring parishes flocked the town of Savanna-la-Mar doing shopping and some seeking entertainment.
Great Georges Street, which is the town's main thoroughfare and popular shopping area, was overflowing with pedestrians doing last-minute shopping, while others were just walking leisurely hailing and greeting their friends.
The Gleaner also observed that most of the entertainment businesses were packed with revellers enjoying the music and liquor.
Vendors and sidewalk fast food spots also did brisk business, as well as public transport operators.
The Gleaner also visited a number of rural townships across the parish Bethel Town, Whit-horn, Petersfield and Darliston all of which were abuzz with music, shoppers, and vendors.
