Justice Harrison to act in Court of Appeal

JUSTICE KARL Harrison has been appointed to act in the Court of Appeal next month.

He will be acting for Justice Algernon Smith who is going on vacation leave for three months.

A graduate of the Norman Manley Law School, Justice Harrison gained the distinction in 1996 of being the first graduate to be appointed to the Supreme Court bench. He has again gained distinction as the first Norman Manley Law School graduate to be appointed to act on the Court of Appeal bench.

Mr. Justice Harrison graduated from law school in 1976 and joined the staff of the Attorney- General's Department. He worked there for five years and left as Assistant Attorney- General to act as a Resident Magistrate.

He was appointed as a Resident Magistrate in 1983, the first law school graduate to be so appointed. In November 1987 he was named Acting Registrar of the Supreme Court and was subsequently appointed in the post. He was later appointed Master in Chambers.

In April 1991, he was appointed to act as a Puisne Judge and has acted on several occasions until his official appointment.
