THE WEEK of celebrations to mark the 63rd anniversary of Boys' Town gets under way tomorrow with three functions at Collie Smith Drive.
The first will be a religious service starting at 9:00 a.m., the second will be an awards and recognition function starting at 10.30, and the third will be a football extravaganza starting at 1:00 p.m. and featuring Entertainers versus Media, Boys' Town versus a Jamaica XI.
During the awards and recognition function, the restored section of the basic school will be handed over to Boys' Town by the police who were responsible for the restoration, and the new playfield of two football pitches and one cricket field will be opened by the Governor-General, Sir Howard Cooke.
Presentations will also be made to the members of the Boys' Town cricket team which won the Senior Cup title this year and also to the Boys' Town football team that finished as the runners-up in the Super League.
The Collie Smith Award will be presented to former director John Maxwell, the Father Hugh Sherlock Award for excellence will be presented to Dr. Basil Bryan Jamaica's Consul General in New York who has been one of the main contributors to the Boys' Town development fund and the man behind the education programme, and two old boys, Patrick Anderson, president of the Jamaica Amateur Athletic Association, and Linden Wright, manager of the Jamaica cricket team and a member of the selection committee, will be honoured for their contribution to national sports.
Schedule for the week: tomorrow - religious service, awards and recognition presentation, football extravaganza; Tuesday - 10:00-3:00 p.m - health fair involving Vocational, All-Age and Basic schools; Wednesday - 10:00-3:00 p.m. - health fair part two; Thursday - 10:00-3:00 p.m. - exhibitions and information booth, 3.30-5.30 p.m. - Father Sherlock lecture; Friday - 5:00 p.m.-8:00 p.m. - Community talent parade; Saturday - 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. - Kiddies entertainment and indoor games.
